Where we are
We live in a bright and comfortable 4 bed modern home, with a dedicated study/teaching room for our students. Our bedrooms for students are 1 double, 1 twin and 1 single. We have a garden with trampoline, badminton and archery.
Crieff is a traditional Scottish town set in the midst of hills in beautiful Perthshire in central Scotland. Many sporting and cultural activities are available in the town and nearby.
The larger towns of Stirling and Perth are not far away and have a lot to offer culturally and historically, e.g. famous Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument. Edinburgh and Glasgow are both within day trip distance.
We can pick you up from either Edinburgh or Glasgow airport, or from Dunblane railway station, which is on a direct line from Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Who we are
We are a family of a mother and two daughters. We are originally from England, and speak standard English.
Lydia Paish is a qualified and experienced teacher of English as a foreign language. Having lived in Paris and attended a French school as a child, she developed a strong interest in languages and learned several to varying degrees of competency – Latin, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese. Unfortunately, she has forgotten a lot since then! After obtaining a degree in Chinese at Oxford University, she spent a year at college in Shanghai before returning to England to study law and qualify as a solicitor. She worked for over 20 years as a lawyer, specialising in employment law (qualification certificate available on request). She has a CELTA certificate in teaching English as a foreign language (available on request) and has taught English as a foreign language in China, Taiwan and England. She has a recent clear DBS check (UK check for those working with children, available on request). She enjoys cooking, both British and international, walking in the stunning local countryside, amateur photography, the theatre and cinema, and spending lots of time with the children and overseas visitors.
Helena is 16. She is a fun and friendly girl, a talented singer and violinist, and loves drama and reading. She goes to boarding school in England, where she has a music scholarship, but is usually at home during school holidays. She is studying French, history and music.
Naomi is 13. She attends a local school. She is a friendly girl with lots of interests, including drama, cornet (trumpet) and outdoor pursuits. Her language exchange stays with French and German families have made a real difference to her competence in French and German, and to her levels of self-confidence and independence.
Lily is a very friendly cat, who sometimes behaves more like a dog, going on long walks with us!
If you send your child to stay with us, either Helena or Naomi, and often both, will be here. They enjoy having visitors, and will make sure that your child both has fun and speaks plenty of English.
